Tape Op Magazine

Website

I began writing for Tape Op magazine immediately after reading my first copy in 2000. I found it to be the best source for creative stimulation in the field of recording and immediately wanted to be a part of it. I started by reviewing equipment and expanded to writing feature articles such as Analog Tape as a Signal Processor and an in depth interview with mix engineer Michael Brauer on his multi-buss compression techniques which has become one of the definitive text on mix compression and is still researched regularly by engineers of all skill levels.

2007 has brought new developments and techniques, including Two Stage Compression, which is the culmination of an addition four years of compression experimentation and will be in the 2007 AES issue. Additionally there will be the first video version of a Tape Op article available on the web and YouTube to coincide with this article.

I have been the moderator for every Tape Op Conference Compressor panel as well as developing panels and potluck studio demos on how to use distortion artistically. I have an extensive list of gear reviews and articles in the works.

Film & Digital Photography

Website

After a long hiatus, I have begun taking photos again. I have reluctantly started using a digital SLR, but still have both 35 MM and medium format film cameras.

There are a variety of images at the website linked to above. Eventually a thorough editing of my 2000 photos shot this summer in Marfa TX, including 750 of Donald Judd and Dan Flavin's art work permanently installed at the Chinati Foundation.
